New wellness center opens at Utah Valley University

OREM, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Utah Valley University cut the ribbon on a new student life and wellness center in Orem Thursday.

Crews broke ground on the four story building back in June 2012 and now it is open.

It includes basketball courts, an indoor track, fitness and dance rooms, workout areas, a climbing wall, bowling alley, gaming center and study rooms.

Former UVU Student Body President Trevor Tooke says it's all part of an effort to encourage commuter students to stay on campus longer.

"UVU needs a place that we can call home for our students, where they can go, hang out all day long, do great things, basketball, bowling, whatever. The wheels started turning, we put together a plan, presented it to the administration,” said Tooke.

In addition to filling a need for a student health and wellness center on campus, professors will also utilize the center for activities, research projects and team-building.
