Jesse Jackson to headline MLK event at U of U

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Civil rights activist and author Jesse Jackson will headline a week-long Martin Luther King Jr. event at the University of Utah in January.

University officials announced that Reverend Jackson will deliver a keynote address on Thursday, Jan. 24 at noon at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Jackson's speech will highlight the university's MLK celebration scheduled for Jan. 19 - 24.

Rev. Jackson worked with Dr. King during the 1960s to enact civil rights policy and raise awareness toward racial equality.

Jesse Jackson was present when Dr. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tenn.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be celebrated as a national holiday on January 21.
