Four people robbed, one shot overnight in Salt Lake Valley

WEST VALLEY CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - Two police departments are on the look out for multiple suspects after four people were robbed at gun point. One man was shot because he didn’t take the robbers seriously.

The suspects involved were targeting people walking down the street around the midnight hour Tuesday night. Both men were armed and are considered dangerous. The first robbery happened in West Jordan in the area of 2600 West and Sugar Factory Road.

“Two cars pulled up. Two people exited both vehicles and approached the victims with hand guns and demanded their property,” said Lt. Travis Rees with the West Jordan Police Department.

The men only got away with a backpack and some personal items.

“It appears that they were working together and just looking for someone walking down the road,” said Lt. Rees.

Thirty minutes later West Valley City police got a call on another robbery. The suspects matched the same descriptions as the men in West Jordan.

“It is uncanny, you know, the suspects descriptions are almost identical,” says Lt. Matt Elson West Valley City Police Department.

This time a couple was walking down 4100 South near 2935 West. But they thought it was a joke.

“A couple of guys got out of the car and demanded the female’s purse. They just kind of laughed it off and continued to walk when they heard a couple of gun shots,” Lt. Elson added.

One of the bullets hit the man in the arm. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. Police in West Valley are working with police in West Jordan to solve the case.

“I know that there was a robbery and they have two suspects whose descriptions are quite similar to the ones we have and they also have some additional vehicle information,” said Lt. Elson.

Here is what police are looking for and need your help with.

The first person is described as a dark skinned man, in his mid 20s, tall with average build and shaved head. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and dark pants.

The second person is described as a dark skinned man, 5'6" with a thin build and had dread locks or long curly hair. Last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and dark pants. Both are considered armed and dangerous.

Both men drove separate cars. One may be a newer Toyota Camry, the other has green mud flaps.

“Hopefully [we] catch these folks cause this is not a good thing when they are going out and robbing people and shooting at people,” said Lt. Elson.
