LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - During the school year Davis School District teachers are entrusted with the health of their students, and even though they're out of school for summer a pair of teachers were able to use their training to help save a woman's life.

It was the semi-annual sale at Bath and Body Works June 14th and the store was packed.

Valerie Lasater, computer teacher at Antelope Elementary by day, saw one of her customers looking a little ill.

Lasater said, "She came in and wanted to purchase some items and wasn't feeling well."

Then things took a turn for the worse.

Lasater explained, "She sat down in the chair and she kind of zoned out, wasn't listening to her daughter or anything. So I ran around the counter, because I was helping her check out and stuff, and went around checked her pulse and couldn't find a pulse on her."

That’s when Patty Arbon, the Davis School District special education teacher turned administrator, stepped in.

Arbon said, "I just think at that point your fight or flight goes into action."

Arbon and Lasater rolled the woman to the back room, carried off the chair to the floor and patty began CPR while others called 911.

"This whole Bath and Body Works team is just fabulous and we could just read each other's minds and just knew to go into action,” said Arbon

It didn't take long for the woman to come to.

"We're trained to do 30 and I gotten about 3 and her eyes popped open and I said, 'well hello what's your name?' and she was able to tell me her name,” said Arbon.

The woman had suffered a mini stroke. She was taken to the hospital and was sent home a couple of days later safe and sound thanks to the quick thinking of two educators and Bath and Body Works employees.

"You practice but you don't ever think you're going to use it,” said Arbon. “It was good testimony that day that you just never know."
