Child killed in Taylorsville crash

- TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- A 3-year-old boy died Saturday night in a Taylorsville crash that involved five cars.

Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said the crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. at around 5400 S. Canal St. (1300 West). Five cars were involved.

Hoyal said the boy was a passenger in a Subaru that had stopped at a red light in the westbound lane of 5400 South. A pickup driven by a 55-year-old man was traveling too fast and rear-ended the Subaru, causing a chain reaction of other crashes involving three other vehicles.

Hoyal said the child was properly restrained in a car seat. Two other people were also injured in the crash. Hoyal said one was in serious condition and the other in fair condition.

Hoyal said the driver of the pickup attempted to blend in with the crowd that gathered at the crash scene, but he was eventually spotted by other witnesses and restrained until police arrive. Hoyal said the man was in police custody Saturday night. Hoyal said alcohol is a factor in the crash.
