TOOELE COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - A brush fire along the south side of Interstate 80 in Tooele County closed down the eastbound lanes Wednesday evening, causing a major traffic backup.

According to the Tooele County Fire Department, the fire started around 7:25 p.m.near Mile Marker 100 and at one time, eight separate fires were burning. Video taken by a passing motorist showed large flames engulfing grass and bushes on a thin strip of land between the Interstate and some railroad tracks.

The Tooele County crews, along with help from the Salt Lake Unified Fire Department, had the fire under control at approximately 8:30 p.m. and one eastbound lane was opened. The fire was completely extinguished and all lanes were opened around 9:45 p.m.

Fire officials are investigating the cause. They told ABC 4 News the fire was unusual because of the eight separate hot sports along a half-mile area and because the vegetation is green with plenty of recent rain.
