43-year-old Draper mother of five killed by a suspected drunk driver

DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - The Draper community is in mourning after a 43-year-old mother of five is killed in an accident caused by an alleged drunk driver.
They were on their way back from soccer practice. 43-year-old Susan Madsen and her 13-year-old daughter were headed home Thursday night, but they never made it.
Around 6:30 at the intersection of 12300 south and Lone Peak Parkway 44-year-old Bill Robert Thompson drove his truck through a red light and hit the Maden's car.
Susan died on the scene
Madsen family Spokesperson Brent Somers told ABC 4 Utah, "You know a mother of 5 children ages 10-16, one of whom is in the hospital as a result of this accident. They lose their mother. It's a very shocking and devastating impact on the family."
A senseless tragedy. Police say Thompson was drunk. He had just been in a domestic dispute 15 minutes before, but took off before police arrived on the scene.
When they got the call of the accident, and saw the white pickup, they knew Thompson had been involved.
Draper Police Department Sgt. Chad Carpenter told ABC 4 Utah, "Obviously we believe alcohol played a role in this accident, but other than that we aren't speculating."
While police try to figure out if Thompson caused the accident on purpose, the Draper community attempts to come to terms with the loss of their friend and mother Susan Madsen.
"Susan was everything," said Somers. "She was a soccer mom, she was involved with her sons in scouting, she was PTA, she was in the classroom with the kids."
A memorial fund in Susan Madsen's name has been set up at all Wells Fargo bank locations.
Once Thompson is released from the hospital he's going to be booked into jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, aggravated assault, domestic violence and domestic assault in the presence of a child.
