SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Talk to anyone Thursday at the Salt Lake International Airport, and you'll hear a few travel horror stories.

"How long were you delayed today?" Reporter Brian Carlson asked one passenger.

"4 hours," said Steve Hemingway, flying from Atlanta.

"We were circling around Salt Lake when they said we had to fly back to Denver," said Frank Koserek, flying from Charlotte, North Carolina.

"I was supposed to leave at 3:00 p.m. today," said Steve White, flying to New York.

"What time are you leaving now?" Carlson asked.

"3:00 p.m. tomorrow," said White.

Thursday scores of flights were either delayed or cancelled because ice covered the runways. One flight arriving from Denver began skidding on the tarmac.

"As we were coming in, it just kind of felt like the whole plane was going sideways on the tarmac," said Meg Henry, passenger.

Some airport staff estimate the ice is leaving 6,000-7,000 passengers stranded with nowhere to go. Some told ABC 4 guests at Outdoor Retailer show have booked up many of the area's hotel rooms.

"I'm trying to find another airline to Denver, or maybe drive to Denver," said White.

Even though the road has been long, some are just grateful they've made it this far.

"I'm exhausted," said Kosarek.

"It's a little frustrating, but I'm glad to be here," said Frank Cirisano, flying from Ft. Lauderdale.

"I thought when my delay started that it was a nightmare, but as it turns out it was good fortune because all the runways were closed anyway. I was one of the first people to land today," said Steve Hemingway, flying from Atlanta.

As of 6:00 p.m. Thursday airport staff said all three runways were back and running. But it is uncertain how long it will take staff to catch up on all the delays and cancelations.
