This was the first time governor Herbert conducted Utah's symphony orchestra which is kicking off the Mighty Five Tour.
“Five national parks we call them mighty five, but we also have a great national treasure here in Utah called the Utah Symphony,” said Utah Governor Gary Herbert.
The Mighty Five Tour is conducted by Thierry Fischer. I asked the governor about his musical background playing the piano as a child
“My mother taught me how to play the piano. She had a give of playing the piano, unfortunately it didn't translate to me,” said Herbert.
David Green the vice president of the Utah symphony said they started the conception of this last November.
“We are and have been gearing up for our mighty five tour, in cooperation with the state of Utah since, let's see, since this last November,” said Green.
“Like most people of Utah I have an appreciation of arts in many forms,” said Herbert.
David is hoping that this is just the beginning of what is possible for touring the national parks with the Utah symphony orchestra.
“We hope that people begin to love our group and the Utah Symphony as we believe it is a jewel of Utah,” said Green.
“We are very blessed in this state to have great creative artists here and I am just a fan of all of them,” said Herbert.
