BEAVER, Utah (AP) - A Utah ski area says it's offering free, unlimited skiing to California residents next winter.

Southern Utah's Eagle Point - in the mountains 18 miles east of Beaver - says any guest can ski free on Thursdays in January.

The ski area was closed for eight years before the managers of a New York-based hedge fund took it over in 2010, spending millions of dollars to improve the place.

Ski Utah president Nathan Rafferty says offering free skiing is a bold move that will pay off for a stunning area few skiers know about. The volcanic-shaped Tushar mountains average 450 inches of snow a year.

Eagle Point is set to open Dec. 21. The resort is about 200 miles from Las Vegas or Salt Lake City.
