UPDATE: High Speed Chase Ends With Standoff On I-15

- KAYSVILLE (ABC 4 News) - A high speed chase between the Utah Highway Patrol, Lehi Police and Draper Police and a wanted fugitive in a black pickup truck stretched the entire span of Salt Lake County on Monday afternoon -- and finally ended with a standoff near Layton, officials said.

Police officers initially tried to stop the suspect's black Toyota pickup in Lehi, but started the pursuit when the driver would not pull over. Lehi police were called to assist by Draper Police, who initially attempted to stop the suspect. The chase continued northbound on Interstate 15, through Salt Lake County and into Davis County.

Authorities attempted to disable the vehicle with spike strips, but the maneuver only destroyed the truck's left side tires. The pickup truck continued to drive on its bare wheels as troopers followed close behind.

The chase ended just after 5 p.m. near 200 South in Kaysville, when the driver exited the vehicle and engaged in a standoff with officers. Video and photos of the chase showed the suspect down on the pavement, with officers' guns drawn on him.

A short time later, a medical helicopter was called to the scene and there was a report of an officer-involved shooting. Initial witness reports suggested that the suspect may have been shot.

A section of northbound I-15 was immediately closed at Park Lane.

UPDATE: Police have released that the suspect is dead. After the suspect's vehicle had come to a stop the man had brandished a handgun and shouted threats, prompting police to use deadly force.

Police have also released that the suspect may had been involved in a robbery on February 22 at a Chase Bank in Draper. Lehi Police identified the man who matched the description and attempted to stop him. The man fled, resulting in the multi-county chase.
