RSL player Sebastian Velasquez arrested for DUI

- SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) -- Real Salt Lake midfielder Sebastian Velasquez has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor traffic violation, including one alleged offense of driving under the influence. 

RSL General Manager Garth Lagerwey confirmed that Velasquez was arrested and charged and that the team is following protocol under its Joint Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program.

"We have followed the initial steps of that program and we hope Sebastian will rejoin the team in training by the end of the week," Lagerwey said in a written statement to ABC 4 Utah.

Velasquez was arrested May 19 on suspicion of speeding, a class C misdemeanor, and driving under the influence of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor. He was charged May 27 in Salt Lake City Justice court and pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday.

Court records show that Velasquez was pulled over by Utah Highway Patrol on May 19. He was allegedly driving 84 mph in a 65 mph zone.

A pretrial conference was also scheduled Monday for Aug. 20 in Salt Lake City Justice Court.
