Powerhouse final four in 5A boys basketball playoffs

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Three of the four 5A high school basketball semifinalists are coming from Region 4. 

Thanks to a Herculean effort by T.J. Haws, 3-time defending champion Lone Peak moves on to the semifinals after a hard fought double overtime win over Bingham, 82-79. Haws broke his own school record by scoring 42 points, while hitting five three-pointers. Bingham rallied from an 8-point deficit in the 4th quarter to force overtime. Yoeli Childs lead the Miners with 22 points. Frank Jackson had 14 points and 15 rebounds for the Knights.

Lone Peak will next face Davis High, which survived a huge scare from Copper Hills, 66-62 in overtime. Jayden Ryan made a layup at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, when the Darts eventually pulled away. Elijah Kletzli had 16 points and 13 rebounds for Davis, while Abel Porter led the team with 17. Preston Sanchez led the Grizzlies with 18 points.

Pleasant Grove used a 46-point second half to pull away from Alta, 78-55. Matt Conway led the Vikings with 25 points, while Forrest Pincock added 18. Pleasant Grove made 10 of 16 three-pointers.

The Vikings will next take on Region 4 rival American Fork in the semifinals. The Cavemen used a dominating defensive effort to blow out Brighton, 50-27. Ryan Andrus scored 12 points, while the Cavemen outscored the Bengals 17-0 in the 3rd quarter and held Brighton to just 10 points total in the second half.
