Overnight shooting leaves man critical

A man is in critical condition after a late-night shooting in Magna on Friday.
Police were called out to 8911 W. 3100 S. just before midnight Friday after a man called to report that he had shot someone.
Officers found 44-year-old Gerald Stanton, who allegedly told police that he had shot a 41-year-old man after confronting a man who Stanton believed had sexually assaulted his partner.
Stanton and the other man got into an argument, which escalated until Stanton shot the man in once in the stomach, Hoyal said.
The victim was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition. Hoyal said Saturday that the man was critical but stable.
Stanton was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted homicide.
