One dead, one critical in Sanpete County crash

- SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- (ABC4 News) One person is dead and another extremely critical after a head on collision in southern Sanpete County Monday morning.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, 42-year-old Kay Matthews was driving north on Highway 89 in rural Sanpete County southwest of Sterling. Her 2004 Pontiac Gran Prix hit a dead dear in the road and she lost control.

Matthews' car swerved into the oncoming land and hit a 1986 Toyota pickup driven by 19-year-old Brady Simons.
 
Matthews later died at Gunnison Valley Hospital, and Simons was flown in extremely critical condition to another hospital north of the crash scene.
