Ogden's Dustin Volk ready for PGA Championship

LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Three Utah golfers will tee it up at the PGA Championship Thursday in Louisville, Kentucky, including 40-year-old Valley View club pro Dustin Volk.

"It's really hard to even put into words," Volk said. "There are so many different emotions and unknowns."

What is known is that Volk placed 5th in National Club Pro Championships at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in June and earned a spot in the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky alongside golf's best players."

"I guess there will be five thousand people watching me hit balls on the range, Volk said. "They said one hole at Valhalla, the grandstand will hold 20,000 people -- one hole."

Volk will join fellow Utahns Steve Scheiter and Danny Summerhays in the PGA Championship field. Volk said he's going to try to enjoy this experience, but he knows there is going to be some nerves because his first tour event is a major championship.

"It's not just a tour event, it's a major," Volk said. "It's one of the top four biggest tournaments of the year. I'm just excited. I just want to go and have fun. I'm nervous, I mean, who wouldn't be?"

Volk harbors no illusions about winning the tournament, but he does have a goal in mind. He says he wants to make the cut and play on the weekend.

"That's my goal and I think that's realistic. If I can drive it good and putt it good like I did at Myrtle Beach, then I think I can shoot around par and maybe be under par. That will make the cut."

Volk knows he could be hitting balls on the range next to Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson, and he wants to soak all of that up and enjoy the experience because it may never happen again.

"It's kind of a dream come true, really. So, once in my life I get to say I teed it up with the very best."
