Man survives base jumping accident

MOAB, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - A terrifying accident -- caught on camera.

A base jumper crashed into the side of a cliff in Moab -- before sliding limply to the ground. Luckily, he's okay.

The mountains and cliffs of Utah are a playground for thrillseekers from around the world but for one base jumper from Philadelphia his latest jump was nearly his last. A warning the video you're about to see is graphic and disturbing.

On Sunday, November 24th a base jumper named Thayer Healey leaps off a steep Moab cliff nicknamed wall street. Within seconds he's in steep trouble.

Healey slams into a protruding slab. His helmet cam captures his descent as his limp body slides down the face of the cliff, landing with a thud.

Whitney McVey is an emergency medical technician and an experienced basejumper  with more than 150 jumps under her belt.  She analyzes the video for us and explains what is going on.

Amazingly, Healey suffered only a fractured vertebra, sprains cuts and bruises. he was out of the hospital in 24 hours.
