Lone Peak to play for record 4th straight 5A title

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - The Lone Peak Knights are back in the 5A championship game. Again.

TJ Haws scored 25 points, while Frank Jackson added 20 as the 3-time defending champion Knights held off Davis, 72-63, in the 5A semifinals at the Huntsman Center. No team in state history has won four straight state championships.

Elijah Kletzli scored 23 points and pulled down 11 points for the Darts, who tied the game at 59 with under four minutes to play. But Lone Peak, which beat Bingham in double overtime Thursday night, found enough energy to close the game.

"We made history winning a national championship last year," said Haws, who was coming off a 42-point performance against the Miners. "Now, we want to make more history."

The Knights will have to get past Region 4 rival Pleasant Grove to do it. The held off another Region 4 team, American Fork, 68-65.

Matt Conway scored 20 points, while Riley Court added 15 as the Vikings were clutch from the free throw line, making 22 of 25 shots.

Ryan Andrus led the Cavemen with 26 points, while Tyler Rawson had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

While Lone Peak will be playing for its 4th straight championship, Pleasant Grove is looking for its first title since 1961.

The Vikings, which beat the Knights last month, are the only Utah team in two years to beat Lone Peak.
