Lehi, Salem Hills win softball state titles

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Lehi scored four runs in the 5th inning and Syd White went all the way on the mound as the Pioneers won its first 5A state softball title in 17 years with a dramatic 5-4 over Taylorsville.

Terra Thabo drove home the go-ahead run in the 5th, while Brooke Willies made a diving catch in left field on the final play of the game with the tying run on second base.

The Warriors took a 3-1 lead on a 2-run home run by Karle Jensen, but the Pioneers stormed back to win the title.

"We've been down a lot in this tournament," said White. "But you know this is a team that can come back no matter what. As long as I do my best on the mound, they're going to back me up with the bats, so I believe in them and they believe in me."

Abby Padilla went 3 for 3 in the victory as the Pioneers celebrate their first title since 1997.

in 4A, Salem Hills beat Bonneville twice to claim its second straight state championship.

In the first game, Kirtlyn Bohling hit a 2-run home run as the Skyhawks routed the Lakers 10-1.

Then in the second game, Salem Hills kept right on rolling with an 8-2 victory to win the championship. Bohling, who also pitched the Skyhawks to a win over Spanish Fork, won all three games on the mound.

"I got a little drained at the beginning of that last game," Bohling said. "I was a little tired. But my defense made the plays I needed and they stepped up."
