Governor inviting discussion on Utah education standards

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - Governor Gary Herbert is calling on all Utahns to come to the table and end the divisive debate over education in the state.

The governor committed to fix problems and keep control at the local level as he unveiled a plan to improve academic standards in Utah schools.

He called for a legal review by the attorney general to clarify Utah’s level of control on implementing common core standards into curriculum... He is also calling for expert and public review of current standards.

"Now more than ever we must all work together to give our students the best education possible so that they can compete in the global market place and reach their full potential. I believe we can do this if we'll all work together. It's time to stop talking past each other and start talking to each other and reason together,” said Herbert.
