Isn't it cool when some of the biggest movers and shakers in the dance world like choreographer Kenny Ortega and professional dancer Derek Hough mention Utah in those red carpet interviews?
"It's an extraordinary community, a generous community. Vivacious, beautiful place. The purple mountain majesty must've been written about those mountains there," said Ortega.
"Some of the best dancers I know come out of Utah. It's an amazing culture, an amazing place to create. Just the talent out there,” said Hough.
Multiple mirror ball trophy winner Derek Hough should know, he grew up taking lessons here while his partner Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy has fond memories of vacationing in our state with her family.
"Seriously the best powder in the world, the best camping ever. We grew up camping in Utah. That's where we go on family vacations." "I saw a commercial for Utah and it said Zions, Bryce...and I used to go to those as a kid, road trips, hiking. I called my dad and said...another road trip! We gotta do it, we gotta do it soon!" said Purdy.
Hough says he is looking forward to a little downtime after taking yet another partner all the way to the finals: a partner that didn't know just weeks ago what her legs, both amputated below the knee, would be capable of.
“We are doing something that's never been done before and every week we are trying to figure that what's possible and we figure it out and share it with the world and it's an incredible experience,” said Purdy.
Viewers this season have watched Amy redefine "impossible" with Derek’s groundbreaking choreography, dance moves that Utahns will get to see up close and personal during he and sister Julianne’s new summer dance tour.
"Julianne and I are taking the tour to Utah and we are dreading it because of the altitude…” said Hough.
Altitude aside Derek says, even after 18 seasons in Los Angeles, on Dancing with the Stars, it's Utah where he feels most at home.
"I really hope that coming from Utah, I represent it. I don't know if I am or not, but that we are doing them proud,” said Hough.
