The three-headed monster that is Bubba Poole, Devontae Booker and Troy McCormick have all been impressive during training camp so far.
"We all got our good stuff about us," said Booker, a junior college transfer from Sacramento. "Troy is a speedster, while I can do both. So can Bubba. So we're just competing every day and getting after it."
Poole led the Utes in rushing last year with 607 yards and two touchdowns. McCornick is a lightning quick redshirt freshman who can take it to the house on any given play, while Booker is an explosive runner that may be the most talented of the three.
The competition in practice is bringing out the best in each player.
"We make each other better," said Poole. "The competition is definitely good for us. "As far as the depth though, I love that. With the quick tempo, we can get guys in there. We really won't lose a step."
"We all just compete and push each other," said McCormick. "It's just a friendly competition. We're just getting better as one on the field."
While it's still unclear if Kyle Whittingham is looking for one guy to carry the load or if he'll use more of a running back by committee, right now Bubba Poole appears to be in the lead.
"Bubba is probably the most steady of the backs," Whittingham said. "But the other two can be spectacular at times. They just have to be able to hold on to the football."
