SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Active-duty military and their families can receive a free annual pass to national parks and recreation areas.

Utah Bureau of Land Management Director Juan Palma says military members can get their free passes beginning Saturday, which is Armed Forces Day.

Palma says the free passes are a way to thank military members and their families.

The BLM will give a pass to anyone with a current military identification. Passes can be obtained at any BLM field office or visitor center.

The military version of the America the Beautiful pass permits free entrance to sites managed by the BLM, National Parks Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Forest Service. It does not cover other fees, such as for camping.
