CLINTON, UTAH (ABC 4 UTAH)  - Some developing news in a heartbreaking head on collision that took the life of a 3-year-old little girl.

Thursday the Clinton Police Department identified her as Marisol Isabel Guiterrez of Hooper.

The head on crash happened Wednesday just after 2 o’clock on 1800 north an 1100 west, in front of Clinton Elementary school. Inside one of the vehicles, a father and two kids.

"The driver of the car his legs were broken and he was yelling and screaming. He kept saying what about my baby, where's my baby, how's my baby,” said a witness.

Clinton Police Chief Bill Chilson told ABC 4 Utah 3-year-old Marisol Isabel Guiterrez died on scene from injuries obtained from the child restraint seat that was improperly connected.

"I know she probably had internal injuries down on the stomach because of the handle that went down, but I don't know if she was thrown around or what,” said Chief Chilson.

As for the infant she was taken to the hospital but later released. Police say the driver of the Red Pontiac Grand AM was Marisols 26-year old step father. They say he was going west bound on 1800 north when he veered into oncoming traffic and hit head on with a 43-year-old woman in a white Dodge Durango.  Both drivers were taken to the hospital for injuries.

“Right now the cause is still under investigation, because we don't know we're still trying to determine that, said Chief Chilson.

Chief Chilson goes on to say no matter how many accidents officers respond to they are never easy especially when it involves children. “It’s one of those I wish had never happened it’s a sad situation,” said Chief Chilson.

Clinton police also told ABC 4 Utah the accident happened before school got out and they were able to reroute kids and keep them from seeing any of the scene.
