MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Some folks got a vivid lesson on hunger Sunday evening at Saint James Episcopal Church in Midvale.
The young people at the church prepared three different meals to demonstrate the problems or luxuries Utahns face.
For what they called third world hunger, the adults at macaroni and cheese on the floor. Third world might be people experiencing homelessness.
Second world folks got a bowl of soup. How do they define second world?
"Living at the poverty line or below it, but not quite reaching that level where you are homeless. It's basically an area described as food insecurity which means you don't know where your next meal will be coming from," said Tia Smart.
Then the folks they called first world, or well off, got a glass of wine, salad and their choice of steak or salmon.
These young people and the church work closely with service providers like the 4th Street Clinic and the Volunteers of America Youth Resource Center.
