Police Identify Woman Accused of Stealing UFA Fire Truck

KEARNS, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- A woman in custody after police say she stole a fire truck.

It happened at a convenience store near 6200 South Cougar Lane.

Officials say the firefighters went inside the 7-Eleven and when they came out their fire truck was gone.

Shortly after a West Jordan police officer spotted the truck with a woman.

She has been identified as 39-year-old Amber Welker.


 

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen said in all his years with the department, he's never seen anyone steal a fire truck.

"I have seen police cars stolen, I've seen ambulances stolen...but this is my first time seeing an actual fire truck taken."

Police say she did not give a reason for taking the truck.
