Woman sexually assaulted in church parking lot, police say

ALPINE, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – Police are investigating after a woman reported a sexual assault in a church parking lot in Utah County.

Lone Peak police say officers responded to a report of sexual assault around 4 a.m. on November 5.

A woman was walking through the parking lot of the LDS Church at 900 West Main St. in Alpine when a man came up behind her and showed her a knife. The woman told police the man then forced her behind a dumpster and sexually assaulted her.

“Shocking,” said resident Melanie Ewing.

“I think people are nervous,” added Ewing.

The female victim was unable to provide detailed physical description of the suspect. While police believe the community is safe, they urge residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“It’s a traumatic event,” said Lt. Dave Borner with Lone Peak Police.

“The victim was transported to American Fork Hospital for injuries she sustained during the incident,” added Borner.

The investigation is ongoing.
