PRICE, Utah (ABC4 News) - A surveillance camera caught the moment an Elko, NV man crashed at a high rate of speed, causing a mass of destruction and power outages to Price residents on Thursday.
Police in Price said the crash happened just after 11:30 a.m. at 540 W. Price River Drive whe the driver, identified as 36-year-old Kurt Killian, was eastbound on Price River Dr. and 600 West at an apparent high rate of speed.
Killian crossed out of the eastbound lane, into the westbound lane, jumped the curb onto the sidewalk and grass in front of a local business and then collided into two ground mounted transformer boxes.
The vehicle continued to travel after the initial impact and hit an 8" thick cement wall, took out a tree and fire hydrant and finally came to rest against a second tree. Two nearby vehicles were damaged from flying debris and shrapnel.
Killian had to be extricated and transported to Castleview Hospital by ambulance.
While on scene, officers detected the odor of alcohol and Killian. After being medically cleared, Killian was booked into the Carbon County Jail on suspicion of DUI.
Police say a number of other charges are being considered by the city attorney.
Investigators, and numerous eyewitnesses agreed, said it is estimated Killian's speed just prior to impact was about 65 mph.
Power to the east and west of the area was eventually resorted.
