Earlier this year high school teacher Rickee Stewart got married; but the gifts listed on her wedding registry weren’t the typical bathroom and housewares items.
Instead Stewart decided she would ask her wedding guests to donate to students in need. She asked for backpacks and winter coats for the students and eventually started on online fundraiser to request food, shoes and school supplies.
People and businesses all across the world have donated to her cause and spread beyond her classroom. So far, Jordan School District reports 1,800 new coats have been donated to warm students in the district.
On Friday, Nov. 17th, Stewart received the largest donation of coats yet. Burlington Stores gave 1,000 brand new coats.
“In the spirit of giving, Ms. Stewart and her students at Copper Hills High [donated] all the coats to children in our neighboring Granite School District,” school district officials said.
Santa helped deliver the coats to all of the students at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School.
