Utah Symphony Musicians To Go On Mission Trip To Haiti

Some of the musicians with the Utah Symphony are embarking on a service mission to Haiti.
Eric Hopkins, Utah Symphony orchestra member, talks more about the significance of the trip.
Fourteen Utah Symphony musicians plus Music Director Thierry Fischer are paying their own way to Haiti next week for a service mission to form the first Haitian National Orchestral Institute March 27 to April 1.
The group will be the largest American professional orchestra group to travel en masse to Haiti to conduct these classical music workshops for 100+ local Haitian youth musicians.
The week-long institute culminates with a youth orchestra concert.
The Utah Symphony musicians have a fundraising goal of $20,000 to help support travel, room and board for some of the local Haitian youth musicians who are traveling to Jacmel from across the country.
Donations for the Utah Symphony are accepted at www.usuo.org/give. To specifically support the mission trip to Haiti, add "BLUME Haiti" or "Haiti Project" in the notes section of the page.
