UDOT issues travel wind advisory for most of Utah through Monday

UTAH (ABC4 News) - The Utah Department of Transportation has issued a high wind travel advisory for most of Utah from Sunday leading into Monday afternoon.

The UDOT Traffic Operations Center updated the advisory Sunday at 9:40 a.m. advising others of adverse traffic conditions due to mountain road snow, areas of valley road slush and snow and gusty winds.

UDOT Full Advisory:

A strong cold front is expected to push through Utah Sunday afternoon and evening, reaching the Salt Lake Valley around 2 - 3 p.m, the Beaver area around 4-5 p.m. with gusts near 40-50 mph expected across southwest Utah both ahead of and behind the front. Gusts of over 50 mph is expected in northern Utah County late Sunday afternoon behind the front.

Mountain snow showers will develop ahead of the front over northern Utah late Sunday morning, with valley locations seeing a few spotty rain showers. As the cold front pushes through, much colder air will filter in behind the front and change showers over to snow for all locations. Snow showers will become moderate behind the front for a few hours, with areas of valley road with slush and snow developing.

Northern mountain road snow could become heavy at times Sunday evening into Monday morning, especially over Parley's Summit and through the Cottonwood Canyons. Road slush/snow is also possible over the higher summits along I-15 from south of Nephi to Beaver, and also along the I-70 summits Sunday night into Monday.
