U of U students gather for MLK Day service project

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah) - Today, students from the University of Utah paid tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. today with an MLK Day of Service.

A total of 250 volunteers got together this morning at the student union to help out with 13 different projects for the Lowell Bennion Community Service Center.

Some of them recycled plastic grocery bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. Others constructed beds for stray dogs at the Best Friends Animal Society. And others made cards for military members.

Another project was knitting hats for patients at Primary Children's. This was part of the Bennion Center's Saturday Service Project series. The next event is scheduled for February 24.
