WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (News4Utah) - A Texas man has been arrested in Washington County for allegedly raping a woman he was training while in Salt Lake County back in July, 2017.
On Sunday, authorities arrested Thorpe Steele, 54, from Alvin, Texas after a warrant was issued for raping a female trainee from CR England at 4701 S Frontage Road in Salt Lake County.
In a probable cause statement, the woman said Steele was her trainer and when he began to show her the inside of his truck, he told her he had several knives inside and that "what happens in the truck stays in the truck."
When they entered the sleeping area of the truck, Steele locked the door and closed the blinds. The woman told police he grabbed the front of her pants and threw her on the bed and told her to undress. When the woman refused and told him no several times, he started to bite her. The woman said that is when Steele raped her.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said they filed the charges in October and issued the warrant for Steele's arrest. Gill notes cases like these can take time before charges can be filed.
"It may be forensic evidence it may be a whole host of different things. That case is put together and if we have it we file it. If that person is out of state or unavailable than we issue a warrant."
In a post-Miranda statement, Steele said the incident was consensual.
Steele is being held on $100,000 bail in the Washington County Jail. Steele will now be transferred up to Salt Lake County to begin his initial hearings.
