Teen killed after falling through roof of Murray business identified

MURRAY, Utah (News4Utah) – A teenager is dead after falling through a roof of an industrial site in Murray Monday evening.

Murray police say three teens were climbing on the roof of Wagstaff Crane Services at 4343 South Commerce Drive when one of them fell through.

Kenny Bass, with the Murray City Police Department said when first responders arrived on the scene the teenager was fighting for his life.

“He was treated at the scene, but pronounced dead,” Bass told News4Utah’s Brittany Johnson. “It’s horrific to see,” added Bass. “It’s tragic. such a young person.”

Tuesday police identified the victim as 17-year-old Keltin Ouellette. They say the other teens with him were 14 and 18 years old. Ouellette's Facebook page says he lives in Clearfield.

Police say it’s still early in the investigation and they don’t why the three individuals were climbing on the roof or how they were able to make their way past the fence and onto private property.

“I don’t know what they were thinking, honestly. Wether it was going into the area to see if they can get on the roof and mess around, I don’t know,” said Bass.

Investigators are speaking with prosecutors to talk about trespassing charges. Bass said “it probably won’t go very far,” due to the tragic events that unfolded.

Wagstaff Crane Services released a statement Tuesday regarding the incident:

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Mr. Ouellette that took place Monday evening at the property near 4500 South and 300 West in Murray, Utah. The property was only recently leased by the company and has been undergoing renovation before being fully occupied. We express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this young man during this difficult time. We are fully cooperating with the local authorities in their ongoing investigation of what appears to be a tragic accident.”
