WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Two Washington City teens are safe after spending the night stuck near Enterprise Reservoir.
Sixteen-year-old Chase Klein and 13-year-old Austin Jones went rabbit hunting around 4:00 Thursday afternoon. Washington City police said the Toyota Tacoma they were in got stuck in snow and mud.
"They did exactly what they should have done. They stayed in their vehicle, they stayed out of the elements and knew that we would find them," Washington City Chief Jim Keith said.
Authorities say the teens didn't take a cell phone or tell anyone where they went, forcing search and rescue to scour about 900 square miles.
Once the sun rose, a civilian's plane and UHP's helicopter joined the search and spotted the truck around 8:45 a.m. Friday.
"[The parents are] absolutely emotional and excited to have their children back and have them safe," Chief Keith said.
The weather dipped into the 20's overnight, and police praised the boys for staying warm by running the truck engine for 20 minutes every hour.
