Suspect arrested, accused of threatening Northwest Middle School

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- Parents of students at Northwest Middle School received a message from school officials about a threat at the school.

"Our school Facebook account received some suspicious messages relating to threats to Northwest over the weekend," the message said. Adding, "Please know that we have been working with the Salt Lake City Police Department to investigate this incident, as well as another threat in recent weeks."

School officials say the suspect was identified as a former student of the school. They say he was booked into a detention center for terroristic threats.

They say the prior threat involved a post on social media by a "young man who is not a Northwest student". That suspect is also reportedly being investigated by police.

Officials say the safety of students' is their top priority.

The identity of the suspect in this incident has not been released.
