Support local artists and grow the economy by attending Holiday Craft Market

12/07/2017 - SALT LAKE CITY, Utah(ABC4 News) The Salt Lake City Arts Council Holiday Craft Market is happening right now. It runs through December 20. It's a huge event for artists in the area. Kandace Steadman from the Salt Lake City Arts Council, and Annie Davis from the Department of Economic Development, joined Emily Clark to talk about just how much this means to the local economy.

There are over 90 artists, all LOCAL, who have been working hard all year to bring their best work to the public. The Holiday Craft Market is in its 34th year, having grown from a small venue into a big market that people have grown to love and return to year after year, says Steadman.

The market has all types of jewelry, ceramics, textiles, artwork, prints and letterpress items, art glass, holiday decorations, items for the home, and artisan foods.

What makes the Craft Market different than other markets this time of year, is that it's truly one of the best places for local Utah artists to showcase their work, says Steadman. They are artists and makers. They are original and creative, bringing new art and gift ideas to our community.

Davis says this event is especially important, because their unique talent is part of what makes our economy thrive. Salt Lake City is home to amazing art and giftware that you just can't find anywhere else.

The theme is "Find Gifts Close to Home and Heart" to remind everyone that a gift purchased from the market has more thought and meaning. It's a one-of-a-kind experience you just don't get from a big box store or Amazon. Davis says this is a way for consumers to "vote" with their dollars. By shopping local - like the Craft Market - consumers are supporting their local talent and economy.
