Step away from the modern world at This Is The Place Heritage Park

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) If questions about Utah's history are looming in your mind, grab your family and weave your way through This is the Place Heritage Park. It's the opportunity to become one with our pioneer past.

This Is The Place. The monument has been standing since 1947 and the park evolving ever since.

"It's fun because there's a lot of different things you can do with your hands, see different things, see how things were done back in pioneer days," said Hilary McCullough, park visitor.

This Is The Place is also the place for summer fun. There's really no other park you can visit that allows you to experience an old school barber shop shave, then take a few steps and land on the farm you can catch the mason welding or run into an old friend cleaning fabrics and sewing.

"Well, it tells the story of the settlement of the West. It's really one of the only places west of the Mississippi that you can hear that story all together. The pioneers, the Native Americans, and it's here in Salt Lake. It's a lot of fun for families to have in their backyard," said Tresha Kramer, This is the Place Director of Communications.

The park hosts events throughout the year and has family passes available for the summer season. This years marks the 10th anniversary of the four park trains.

"That's really a milestone for us but the public can really now get around the park with ease with all the trains," said Kramer.

While it's hard to pick the absolute best park feature, most people can agree it's a chance to leave the buzz of the modern world behind.

"One of the best things for families is they get to tune out the world a little bit. It's a step back in time. It's quieter, there's hands on activities, they can put  the cell phones and maybe not engage so much with the busy, busy. They get to come here and have fun," said Kramer.
