SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes is nursing some sore muscles as he recovers from his big boxing bout late Saturday night.
The charity-boxing event “Draper Rising, Boxing in Solidarity” was in downtown Salt Lake City at the Grand Hall at The Gateway. Speaker Hughes battled two-time “Utah Tough Man” Kelly McCleve.
“Now I’m the underdog here, but that’s where I like to be…I like being the underdog,” Hughes said before the fight.
Hughes trades blows with McCleve. They went 3 rounds, but no one was declared a winner. This was a fundraiser to support The National Crittenton Foundation. Its goal is helping women who are homeless or victims of abuse.
“We have people out there that we don’t want to see having to live in their cars if they’re a victim of domestic violence or if they need health care, but they’re too afraid to go to the 4th Street Clinic,” Speaker Hughes said.
In the end the winner was the Crittenton Foundation. Speaker Hughes said the event raised about $15,000 and helped raise awareness for the foundation.
