Smashing pumpkins at Utah State University, actual pumpkins (not the band)

LOGAN, Utah (ABC4 News) – Good messy fun at Utah State University brought the North Logan community together in high spirited competition.

Friends and family of students gathered to test their engineering prowess as Halloween leftover pumpkins were launched though the air Saturday.

Judges awarded prizes for the farthest through, the most accurate at hitting targets and the most innovative design.

Teams started building their machines in August. The prize winning farthest launch was over 600 feet.
