SLC council approves program to provide free tickets to Broadway shows

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) – Salt Lake City Council approved a program that will provide eligible residents with free tickets to Broadway performances at the Eccles Theater.

Arts for All is a joint city-county initiative that will offer an average of 25 tickets to each Broadway event through a random drawing. The program will launch February 2018 with ticket distribution starting with The Sound of Music.

Other confirmed titles include Riverdance, Hamilton, Jersey Boys, Daniel Tiger, and the Phantom of the Opera.

To be eligible to enter the drawing for tickets, city and county residents must receive SNAP benefits or be eligible for free or reduced lunches.

Seventy-five percent of tickets will go to Salt Lake City residents and 25 percent to Salt Lake County residents. Tickets are distributed based on ownership of the Eccles Theater between Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County.

The program is funded by a $0.50 fee on all tickets sold at the Eccles Theater, with the fees and program managed by the Salt Lake County Center for the Arts. Eligible residents will be able to register online, by phone, or in person at the Eccles Theater.
