Scam hits Bountiful area

Scammers also knocking on doors pretending to be with the power company

BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- Police in Bountiful are warning the public to be on alert after receiving reports of a scams involving the power company.

In one instance scammers are calling people claiming they are from Bountiful Light and Power. They then attempt to get personal information out of people and even offer to help customers save money.

Police say these calls are not from Bountiful Light and Power. If you receive a call like this hang up.

Remember to never provide personal information over the phone.

In addition, city officials say Tuesday they received word that a 30-40 year old male was knocking on doors wearing work clothes saying he needed to do an equipment check and enter the home. The scammer says Bountiful Power needs to check the equipment for a possible change to Rocky Mountain Power. This is NOT true. City officials confirm there is no switching to RMP in the works. 

"All Bountiful Power’s equipment is OUTSIDE homes and our personnel would never ask to come inside a home to check anything," officials said.
