Salt Lake County Sheriff Winder Speaks About Recent Officer Deaths

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) Since the beginning of the year, three Unified Police Department officers have died outside of the line of duty.
The most recent death was that of local law enforcement hero, Jon Richey. He was found dead in his Salt Lake City home on Saturday.
Richey's death came on the same day the department was gathering to say goodbye to Detective Brian Holdaway.
The 50-year-old died on duty, from a medical condition, on February 2. On January 25, Unified Detective Brooks Green died from a sudden cardiac event. He was 32.
Sheriff James Winder spoke about the recent deaths Monday. He says despite ongoing investigations, none of their deaths are suspicious or nefarious.
"That is hurtful, that is concerning, and unnecessary speculation by those who have little to no knowledge about these very hurtful and tragic circumstance," said Salt Lake County Sheriff Winder.
Sheriff Winder also mentioned the deaths of two Department of Corrections officers that both happened in the past 18 days. He reiterated that none of the officer deaths were related.
