LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A 24-year-old man was shot and killed by his best friend after an argument, according to a roommate who lived in the same home.
Police say 24-year-old Taylor Vancamp was shot and killed early Monday morning inside the Layton home where he lived.
"I was just in so much shock, and so terrified,” said Krista Whitaker, who lived in the home with Vancamp and the 19-year-old male roommate.
Whitaker says Vancamp and the 19-yr-old started arguing early this morning.
"I heard a lot of thud noises, and all of a sudden--my two roommates barged in my bedroom, they were kinda like in a fistfight. They were both throwing punches,” said Whitaker.
"They were both really best friends. And that's probably why this is so shocking to me,” added Whitaker.
Whitaker isn't sure what they were fighting about. But when they left her room, she heard this:
"One went to his room and shut the door, the other went to his room and shut the door,” said Whitaker.
"I just hear a door swing open, and Chris and Taylor, and Taylor saying, no,” she added.
"And then I just heard about six gun shots, and then I heard the thud to the floor,” said Whitaker.
When police arrived, they found Taylor Vancamp dead.
Hollie Connell was Vancamp’s girlfriend.
She says Vancamp and the 19-yr-old had been friends for more than 10 years. They had been in fights before.
"I was a little concerned--he would say, like, 'I'm going to shoot you, Taylor,’” said Connell.
But Connell says she never imagined that it could actually happen.
'Knowing that his best friend shot him is like the hardest thing to take in, and the fact that I won't be able to see him again. It's very hard,” said Connell.
