PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Utah) - Provo Police are searching for a man they say is “dangerous” after a pair of armed robberies Sunday.
According to police, the first robbery was at the Sleep Inn Hotel near 1505 South and 40 East around 5:40 p.m.
They say a man walked into the lobby with a gun, jumped over the counter and kicked over the cash register and demanded money from the clerk. Police say the man took off without getting any money.
About one hour later police say they received a call regarding a second robbery at the Hampton Inn Hotel next door. They say the man did the same exact thing in the first armed robbery. This time he used a knife.
“As we were walking into the hotel I saw the police talking to the girl and the girl was like, ‘he pulled a knife on me and I just gave him all the money in the cash register,’ and that was really scary to hear,” said 12-year-old Dottie Bird, staying at the Hampton Inn with her family. “Nobody should ever have to go through that.”
The suspect is described as man, anywhere from 6’1” to 6’2” wearing a gray hoodie and a mask.
According to Lt. Brian Taylor with the Provo Police Department, police are investigating a rash of similar armed robberies around Utah County.
“Provo is a very safe place but there’s someone in our community now taking advantage of that and using a weapon to threaten people for money. We’re concerned,” said Lt. Taylor.
