Officials Blame Faulty Equipment for Death of Rock-Climber

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- One man is dead after the equipment he was using when rock climbing failed.

San Juan County Search and Rescue crews responded to a popular rock climbing area in Beef Basin Canyon Saturday evening.

They say 50-year-old Mark Davis of Salt Lake City was with a friend rock climbing at Rambo Wall when Davis experienced some type of equipment/rope failure.

He reportedly fell about 20 feet and suffered major head trauma.

Officials say Davis was not wearing a protective helmet.

Emergency crews and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene, but Davis had passed away from his injuries before they arrived.

There is a current investigation into why the equipment failed.
