CACHE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 Utah) – A North Logan man is accused of trying to solicit a minor for sex.
Police say it all started when Nicholas “Nick” Deelstra, 54, of North Logan, contacted the FBI claiming to a be a victim of scam on Craiglist.
According to a probable cause statement, Deelstra told the FBI he had solicited sexual activity with a 16-year-old boy through Craiglist. They had reportedly agreed to meet at Deelstra’s house in North Logan.
Deelstra told the FBI the teen never showed up and a person claiming to be the boy’s father was now demanding he send money to cover repairs because the teen had damaged a vehicle while trying to meet up.
The probable cause statement says Deelstra also gave consent for investigators to search his phone. Detectives found text messages and a photograph exchange between Deelstra and the teen.
Police shared this information with Cache County Attorney who agreed the text messages, photograph exchange and admission warranted the following charges: attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, dealing harmful material to a minor and two counts of enticing a minor.
Deelstra was arrested and taken to the Cache County Jail.
