Neighbors remember LDS bishop and his children, after deadly plane crash

SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Friends and neighbors of an LDS bishop, who died alongside his children in a plane crash over the weekend, are remembering him.

Family members identified the pilot as Randall "Randy" Wells.

It is snowy days like Monday that most people head indoors to bundle up and wait out a storm -- but not Wells.  Neighbors of the beloved family man say he never missed a beat.

"He's the only one who was cleaning all these roads and driveways for the whole neighborhood," said Lianna Agaronyan, a neighbor.

"He has pushed the snow back, so I can get my truck parked on the street [many times]," said Gary Fullmer, another neighbor.

But Monday morning, streets and sidewalks in the Sandy City neighborhood where the Wells family lives remained untouched, as many homeowners learned for the first time why.

Search and rescue crews confirmed a plane crash with no survivors in the Panguitch area, after more than 24 hours of searching for Wells and his two young children.   Over the weekend, relatives confirmed that the small personal plane Wells was flying went off the grid while he was flying home from Phoenix with his kids onboard.

Neighbors say his expectant wife stayed behind.

"They're very, very special people, and the little kids -- we just adore them.  The little boy calls us 'Grandma and Grandpa' all the time," said Beverly, an elderly neighbor.

Friends confirmed Wells has served as bishop of the Sandy Utah Mount Jordan 3rd Ward in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for at least a couple of years.  They say many members of his ward family packed up and headed to southern Utah to help with the search, but before they could get too far, crews found the wreckage.

Now, with heavy hearts, friends and fellow worshippers are saying 'goodbye.'

"He's a guy you just naturally love and respect, and it breaks our heart..." Fullmer cried.  "It's like losing a family member," he said.

Family members identified the Wells children, who also died in the crash, as 8 year-old Asher and 3 year-old Sara.

******A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Randy's wife Kristin.
