Murray officer hit by car while directing traffic

MURRAY, Utah (ABC4 News) - Scary moments for a police officer in Murray after being hit by a car while he was directing traffic for the fire department Saturday night.

Murray City Police Sgt. Luis Argueta said the officer was on scene of a fire in Murray near 5300 South and 370 East just before 8 p.m.

"He had stopped some cars and was holding traffic for firefighters who were working on a small fire," Argueta said. "One of the drivers foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas peddle and subsequently ran into the officer."

Argueta said the officer received minor injuries and thankfully the speed at which the officer was hit was very low. The officer was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated and released.

It is not known if the driver of the car will be cited.
