Murray mom stops possible attempted abduction in nick of time

MURRAY, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - Police are investigating a possible attempted kidnapping, after a Murray mother caught a man trying to entice her two year-old with candy.

It happened Sunday afternoon in broad daylight right in front of the family's home.

Sacia Ames says she stepped away for about 10 seconds, when a man hopped out of a car across the street.  She says the man was holding out candy as he approached her little girl.

"I hear, 'You want some candy?'"  Ames recalled.  "I see that he's got his arm on my child's wrist as if he's going to pull her up out of the gate, so I start running down the driveway, saying 'You need to get your hand off my child!'"  she said.

Ames says the man in his late 40's or early 50's took off in a gray or silver Hyundai as soon as she confronted him.

Police are now trying to identify a suspect but say they do not have any leads.  If you have information, Murray investigators say they want to hear from you.   You can reach dispatch at (801) 840-4000.
